Who am I? Hello, I’m Lori Miller. It’s great to have you, here! Let me share a little about myself.

My love interest for cooking began when I was just a little girl, watching my Mexican grandmother, Guadalupe (Nana Lupe), cook fresh meals every day for our large family. When I was old enough, she taught me simple, Mexican recipes, and about the wonderful flavor combinations possible, using fresh and inexpensive ingredients. She could barely read or write, but she could cook like the best of them! Nana Lupe was my true, culinary inspiration.

With a background in Education, I had the opportunity to relocate to Japan for an English teaching job, and it wasn’t until I was living and working in Japan, that I realized how much I loved to cook. Finding American food products in Japan -almost impossible back then, (and very expensive), so I started making everything fresh, from scratch. My little apartment became filled with fresh bread, decorated with fresh pasta drying out on clothes hangers, and jars of sauces took over on my bookshelves, lol…my neighbors loved benefitting from my new hobby! Also, being able to learn a variety of dishes from a group of housewife neighbors -priceless. Their meals were some of the best I’ve ever had.

After returning to the USA in the 1990’s, I enrolled in culinary school to pursue my dream. First, I attended the 9-month Professional Baking and Pastry Course at The Epicurean School of Culinary Arts in West Hollywood, and then the 16-month Professional Chef Training Program at the Los Angeles Culinary Institute in Encino, California. After this, I worked as a private chef for the next 25-years, while simultaneously catching some very diverse experience as a film industry caterer (i.e. Craft Services), a recipe developer and menu consultant, a farmers market vendor, and a culinary instructor.

In addition to being a trained Chef, Baker, and Podcaster, I dabbled as an ebook author. Can you believe it? My first eBook, published in 2016, Pure Fresh Donuts: 30+ Mix & Match Paleo Recipes, was listed on Amazon’s Top 25 Best Selling Gluten-free eBooks. My second published eBook, Gluten-free Delicious: 30 Quick & Nourishing Recipes, has done very well, also. Both books are available on Amazon.com.

Outside of the kitchen, I’ve been known to binge on international cooking shows, Korean dramas, road trips seeking out new food inspo, and watching thriller, suspense, and espionage movies. I love traveling, hiking, gardening, creating concrete plant containers and discovering new music. I’m super blessed to be married to a wonderful husband who has a strong background in cooking, too! He loves the challenge of whipping up something gluten-free for me to enjoy. We are adventurous explorers who are based in California, and are so blessed to share a strong faith in God.

I live with Celiac Disease (diagnosed in 2009), and I positively believe there are endless options when it comes to wholesome and nourishing, gluten-free food! I hope to inspire others, through the creations I share here on Substack.com.
